MY Sonic Labs cartridges represent designer Y. Matsudaira’s crowning achievement in a lifetime of the design of state of the art moving coil cartridges. In over forty years of moving coil cartridge design, Y. Matsudaira has developed numerous milestone cartridges. His illustrious career includes the first moving coil to seriously define moving coil technology as the wave of the future for high resolution playback. The first moving coil cartridge line to be accepted in the marketplace with high volume distribution was also Matsudaira design.

Establishing himself as a premier designer of state of the art moving coil cartridges, Matsudaira designed two cartridges for a new company, which, based on the sound of these two models, established that company as the most storied moving coil cartridge brand. These designs remain in production to this day. After decades of design for other companies, including the current models of two of the top brands on the market today, Y. Matsudaira decided to field a line of cartridges where his design talents would not be anonymous. The resultant brand, MY sonic Labs, so named for his initials, M.Y., represents a premium, uncompromised line of cartridges from the most accomplished cartridge designer in audio.

Y. Matsudaira has remained on the forefront of technology in moving coil cartridge design, using the latest materials for magnets, cantilevers, and dampers. Yet, despite his ever present drive to advance electromagnetic and mechanical parameters, his cartridges retain, and show more clearly than ever before, the inner beauty and naturalness of the music. Abundant detail and transparency is present, yet never relegates the emotion of the true musical experience to a secondary position.

As a true living legend in the cartridge design field, and certainly embodying the attributes of a “Grand Master” of his field, Y. Matsudaira’s limited production cartridges, in an objective sense, represent extreme performance components. In a subjective sense his cartridges represent the artistic culmination of over forty years of dedication and the pursuit of excellence by the Grand Master, Y. Matsudaira.
