USER COMMENTS ON MY SONIC LABS Michael Fremer from Stereophile: “….made bright recordings sound real-and ideal recordings, too! I don’t know how the EX managed that, but it did.” “My Sonic Lab’s Eminent EX is among the finest, most skillfully balanced cartridges I’ve heard.” WR from Massachusetts says: “I have known you for 2 decades and I’ve not seen you make a sonic mistake yet! But I could not imagine a cartridge beating my XXXX ($5,000 cartridge). After all, I’ve tried so many, the Benz LP, the Orpheus, the Clearaudio. Remember when it was me telling you to get a XXXX? But, you trumped me here. Your words were right: even tempered you told me, with a magic midrange. It is all that for sure. Reminds me of the magic mids of the Koetsus of the old days we both loved, but with “I am there” detail and dynamics that actually beat my XXXX I was hoping I would find what you do, that the surface noise would be low, and low is not the word. My horn speakers show every bit of surface noise but this cartridge is QUIET! I’m proud of what you’ve done in the industry my boy, and this is another example. FL from Canada loves it: Dear A.J., I loved it when you said that I am a cartridge junkie. I am. Miyabi, Koetsu, Benz, Lyra Titan, Colibri. Guess I’m crazy. But the Eminent beats them all. Mids from the Miyabi and Koetsu, detail of a Lyra, wide range of Colibri, and Dynamics like I’ve never heard. But so quiet. Where did my surface noise go? You just talked yourself out of a turntable upgrade. This makes such difference I’m not feeling a need to spend any money on anything else! Fxxxx. H. from New York, who has the Ultra Eminent: I don’t believe you. I can’t understand how you say the Ultra Eminent can be better than the Eminent. How can anything be better than this? xxxxx BL from Sacramento: A.J.- Your old dealer Chris talked me into the Dynavector 3 years ago and I have never been tempted to move on. Glad I did, the upper-midrange peak of my speakers is gone! The Ultra Eminent is magic. Thanks! T.D. in Florida first bought the Eminent, then the Ultra Eminent: Hi A.J., After you convinced me I went to your dealer to get the Eminent, and I am so pleased with how it sounds with my Kharmas. What a neutral, open cartridge. I loved it so much I moved it to my second system and picked up the Ultra Eminent. Your description is perfect…..a “familial resemblance” you said, but with more detail top to bottom. My only hesitation was that I thought more detail might be too much with the Kharmas in my main system. They are fantastically detailed. Well, I guess there is never too much detail if there is no distortion. The Ultra is really more detailed, but just as lovely in every way. Wow! Tom Bill enthuses: A.J. You asked for my thoughts, here they are: Magnificent! This was the missing link. I know you want me to move on to your Inspiration from my Walker. But it serves well and I would take a bath selling it. They lose a lot of value on the used market. But the Ultra Eminent works so well, and brings a level of musicality I've never had, I think I will be in audio heaven for quite some time. This is one of the biggest improvements I have ever made. Dr. Bill Steve loves his My Sonic Labs: Dear A.J., I owed you this review for several weeks. I promise I will get working on a review of the turntable and tonearm. To whom it may concern: In December I bought my new Basis Turntable, the 2800 with Vector tonearm. I thought I would be satisfied forever, but I wanted a new cartridge too. A.J. Conti of Basis told me to wait until I heard my Dynavector in the Basis. He was correct, the Basis and Vector tonearm made a huge improvement in every area. Still, though, there could be some harshness in the upper mids, and my Avalon Diamonds are not forgiving in that area. Upon A.J.’s advice I tried the My Sonic Labs Ultra Eminent Ex. Not only is the harshness gone, now I have so much more detail, along with better dynamics, that I am loving my Diamonds better than ever. The My Sonic Labs Ultra Eminent cartridge is other worldly. Music has never sounded so “live” in my system. And my records have never sounded in such good condition. Sincerely, Steve M. |
